Here is an excerpt from the most recent UN report on Darfur:
"The HLM has also received credible information of torture, inhumane and degrading treatment by National Security and Military Intelligence during attacks and in the treatment of detainees. The methods used include beatings with whips, sticks and gun butts, prolonged sun exposure, starvation, electrocution, and burning with hot candle wax or molten plastic. Many detainees are held incommunicado without charge or access to a lawyer."
Does this sort of treatment of 'enemies' remind you of any particular Western democratic government?

Paul,
You might want to keep an eye on this guy, Archbishop Pius Ncube. He has taken a very risky, non-violent protest against Mugabe. It will be interesting to see how everything unfolds. Nothing has worked so far in stopping the Zimbabwe president from destroying the economey and country as a whole. Link is below...

Paul,
Your thoughts are provoking my own. I think that our government operates on a Cold War mentality of "we are the good guys and we have to do whatever it takes to defeat the axis of evil". Unfortunately, the world has moved on from the Cold War, and America seems to have lost its footing walking on an uncertain new path.
